Summer Reading and Recreation Kickoff!

Thursday, June 21st is our Summer Reading and Recreation Kickoff Event! We’re kicking off the summer with a joint sign-up between the Brooks Free Library Summer Reading Program and the Town of Harwich Recreation Department Summer Programs. Join us at the Community Center for hot dogs and outdoor games starting at 5:00. The Mad Science Rocket Show will begin at 6:00. The entire event is free, no registration is required.

 

Weekly Youth Programs for the Summer:

All weekly programs are free and do not require registration.

Teen Craft: Mondays at 2:30: Students age 13 and up can create a wide variety of sophisticated crafts. 7/2 Beads, 7/9 Cake Decorating – Flowers, 7/16 CD Mania, 7/23 Cupcake Toppers, 7/30 Gelli Printing, 8/6 Edible Slime, 8/13 Tie Dye, 8/20 Rock Art

Mother Goose on the Loose: Join us as we sing songs, and play with musical instruments every Tuesday at 10:30! This program was designed for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, but every age is welcome.

Lego Fun: Every other Wednesday at 2:30! We will bring out our tubs of Lego blocks! Complete a special challenge, or just build to satisfy your own creativity.

Build it Challenge: Every other Wednesday at 2:30! Can you build a contraption with our supplies that will accomplish our challenge goals? 7/18 Boats, 8/1 Zip Line, 8/15 Egg Drop

Story Time: Every Friday at 10:30 we will read stories and sing songs!

Friday Craft: Every Friday at 2:30 we will have a new craft for children! 7/6 Noisemakers 7/13 Jellyfish Suncatchers 7/20 Pet Rocks 7/27 Sock Animals 8/3 Clay Creatures 8/10 Slime 8/17 Dragon Craft 8/24 Cookie Decorating

Special Summer Programs for Children: 

All programs are free. Unless otherwise noted, programs do not require registration and are open to all ages.

July 3rd at 2:30 Process Art for Kids It’s about the process, not the product! Whether you want to take the final products home or not, kids of all ages will enjoy interacting with several different art mediums and techniques, from painting with bubbles to making our own kinetic sand. No registration is required. This program is free.

July 5th at 2:30 Tunes and Tales
Part musical concert, part story telling, this unique program will entertain children of all ages. No registration is required. Free tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 2:00.

July 10th at 2:30 Magic Show!

Marcus the Magician will once again visit the library with his array of magical tricks and illusions.

July 12th at 2:30 Animal World Experience

Live animals are a highlight of this entertaining and informative program.

July 14th at 2:30 Ladybug Release

After making a ladybug craft and learning about these helpful insects, we will release thousands of ladybugs outside, with an opportunity for everyone to hold handful of live ladybugs.

July 17th at 2:30 Barn Babies

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for Barn Babies! Live baby animals that children can cuddle and hold will visit the library! Registration opens June 21st. Please email Ann at acarpenter@clamsnet.org to register.

July 19th at 2:30 Read to Dogs Doggy members of the Companion Animal Program will be coming to the library on Thursday, July 19th! Children can read a book to a dog, as well as pet and interact with multiple dogs for some low-key doggy fun! No registration is required. All ages are welcome.

July 21 at 2:30 Bay Songs Childrens’ Concert   Sing and dance to a mix of old favorites and original songs about nature, literacy – or just having fun! Cape resdients John and Jo-Anne Keenan bring music to a children’s concert on Saturday, July 21st at 2:30. No registration is required. All ages are welcome. This program is free. Free tickes will be handed out on a first come first served basis starting at 2:00

July 24 at 1:00: Harwich Mariners Storytime!  Several members of the Harwich Mariners Cape League baseball team will read baseball themed stories and then sign autographs and pose for pictures. No registration is required. This program is free.

July 26th at 2:30 Rainforest Reptiles

This fun and entertaining show will feature live reptiles!

July 31 at 2:30 Reptile Science

The Boston Museum of Science will bring a selection of its reptile friends to talk about the science of reptiles and demonstrate some of the unique features of reptiles in his highly informative presentation. All ages are welcome, the target age group is grades 1-6. This program is free. No registration is required. Free tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 2:00.

August 2nd at 2:30 Creature Teachers

Live animals are a feature of this educational presentation of exotic animals.

August 7th at 2:30 Pitter Patter Puppets  Mary Wilson brings back the ever popular Pitter Patter Puppet show! Engaging and interactive, this show is most appreciated by preschoolers and children in grades K-2, but all ages are welcome and will enjoy the performance. This program is free. Free tickets will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 2:00.

August 9th at 2:30  Big Ryan’s Tall Tales Big Ryan the Story Teller returns once again to Harwich with his unique brand of hilarious story telling. The target audience is young children, but all ages are welcome. No registration is required. Free tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 2:00.

August 14th at 2:30 Magic Show!

Ed Popielarcyzk, a popular magician, will bring his humorous magic and illusion show back to the library!

August 16th at 2:30 Tie Dye Workshop

Bring a white t-shirt and we’ll supply the liquid dyes and know-how to create unique clothing!

August 18th at 2:30 Trevor the Juggler  Cape Cod resident Trevor Pearson returns to the Brooks Free Library with his dynamic juggling act! No registration is required. This program is free. Free tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 2:00.

August 21st at 2:30 Ice Cream in a Bag Can you really make ice cream in a plastic bag? We sure can! Combining milk, sugar, vanilla, ice and salt we’ll make our own soft ice cream treats! If you have food allergies, please contact Ann at acarpenter@clamsnet.org.

August 23rd at 2:30 Dinosaur Day It’s Dinosaur Day at the library! We’ll make dinosaur crafts, play dinosaur games, and have a Dino-mite time! This program is designed for ages 3-8, but all are welcome. This program is free. No registration is required.
