Cape Cod Tornado

Date of Event: July 23, 2019

“The National Weather Service has confirmed that two high end EF-1 tornadoes occurred on Cape Cod Tuesday July 23rd with maximum wind speeds of 110 mph. The damage was a combination of two tornado touchdowns: one in Southeast Barnstable/Yarmouth (5.5 mile path, 250 yards wide, on the ground for 10 mins) and one in Harwich (2.8 mile path, 250 yards wide, on the ground for five minutes), along with extensive straight line wind damage which affected Dennis and West Harwich, as well as Chatham.” Source: MEMA, CAPE COD TORNADO

Filing & payment information for taxpayers affected by the recent Cape Cod severe weather event from Mass. Dept. of Revenue

Description: For taxpayers affected by the recent severe weather event on Cape Cod, the Department recognizes that taxpayers in Barnstable, Brewster, Chatham, Dennis, Harwich, Mashpee, Sandwich, and Yarmouth might be unable to comply with their filing or payment due dates occurring on or after the date of the event. The Department would like to assist taxpayers as much as possible. Consequently, the Department will waive any penalties associated with any late-filed return or payment that was due on or after July 23, 2019, and before November 1, 2019. The Department will waive penalties through November 15. If any taxpayer in the affected areas receives a penalty for this period, they should reach out to us at (617) 887-6367.


Brooks Free Library

Description: Brooks Free Library is waiving late fees for materials due between July 23 – July 27. The automated system is CLAMS-wide, so patrons should call or speak to our staff members at the Circulation Desk if they find they are being charged an overdue fine so we can waive the charge.
