As Brooks Free Library’s new director, Mark Ziomek comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from working in a variety of libraries within Federal government agencies in Washington DC. Mark earned his undergraduate degree at Bowdoin College and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduation he worked as a cataloging librarian and then a Cataloging Policy Specialist at the Library of Congress. He then served as the Director of the Library at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and later worked at the Government Accountability Office as Manager of Library Services. Mark ended his Federal career as the Chief of the Public Services Division at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. In all these positions, Mark had extensive management responsibilities, budgetary and policy development oversight, and experience working collaboratively with staff, other government agencies, and outside organizations.
Mark relocated to Cape Cod in 2019 and has been closely involved with Snow Library in Orleans, serving on the library’s Board of Trustees and working with the Friends of Snow Library. As a trustee, he was on the team responsible for developing the library’s current strategic plan and prepared a completely new version of the library’s policies and procedures manual, among other projects. Last year, Mark also served as Interim Library Director at the Brewster Ladies’ Library, providing day-to-day management of the library during a maternity leave of absence and contributing in a variety of ways to ensure the smooth running of library operations and programs.
We are excited about Mark bringing his extensive experience, skills, and initiative to leading Brooks Free Library into its next stage of development! Please welcome Mark the next time you visit the library.
